Università del Salento


The Università del Salento Unit is coordinated by the Principal Investigator, Manuela Mosca, an historian of Italian economic thought, with experience also in women's economic thought and archives of Italian economists.

The Unit coordinates the whole project, organises the team meetings, internal workshops, intermediate seminars and the final conference. The Unit set up and coordinates the creation of the database. It is responsible for the part of the research related to Italian women until 1950.

The Unit includes Claudia Sunna, a historian of economic thought with a long expertise of research on gender studies, Elena Laurenzi, a historian of political thought with great competence on feminist theory, Alessandra Tessari, a scholar in business history who will bring her knowledge on female entrepreneurship.

Manuela Mosca

Full Professor of the History of Economic Thought in the Department of Economics, University of Salento (Lecce, Italy), President of AISPE (the Italian association for the history of economic thought), in 2009 was awarded with the best article prize and in 2019 with the best book prize by the History of Economics Society. Her main research interests are: women in the history of economic thought, Italian Marginalism, and the history of the theory of monopoly power.

Elena Laurenzi

Contract researcher at the University of Salento and Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona (UB). She has been the Principal Investigator (PI) of two competitive projects funded by the Apulia Region through the European Social Fund for the enhancement of archival and cultural heritage, applicable to the tourism and business sectors. Her research is mostly dedicated to the original contributions of women philosophers and activists to the political-philosophical thought of the 20th century.

Claudia Sunna

Associate Professor in History of Economic Thought at the Università del Salento (Lecce) where she serves also as vice-Rector for Strategic Planning and Job Placement. She obtained the PhD in History of Economic Doctrines at the University of Florence. Her research interests concern population and economic development theories in the history of economic thought and Italian economic thought from a gender perspective.

Alessandra Tessari

Lecturer in Economic History in the Department of Economics at the University of Salento (Lecce, Italy) where she teaches Economic History and Economic History of Tourism. In 2012-2013 she was research fellow at the University of Reading (UK) where she focused on the history of Italian food industry. Her current fields of interests are Sport tourism and Business history.
